Stellantis: agreement with Ample on removable batteries
(CercleFinance.com) - Stellantis announces that it has signed an agreement with Ample, a San Francisco-based company which aims to develop a battery replacement system for electric vehicles, enabling any electric vehicle to be fully charged in less than 5 minutes.
The two partners have agreed to work on integrating Ample's 'Modular Battery Swapping' solution into Stellantis electric vehicles.
The principle: when the customer passes through a specially designed station, the battery to be recharged is swapped for a fully-charged battery in just a few minutes.
The two companies could also extend this application to other Stellantis platforms and other geographical areas to meet fleet and consumer demand.
The initial program is due to start in Madrid, Spain, in 2024, with a fleet of 100 Fiat 500e vehicles as part of Stellantis' Free2move car-sharing service.
