Bouygues to build Washington's Potomac River Tunnel

(CercleFinance.com) - DC Water has selected CBNA-Halmar Clean Rivers, a joint venture between Bouygues Construction's U.
S. subsidiary CBNA and Halmar International, to design and build the Potomac River Tunnel.

This is a major environmental project designed to prevent overflows from the sewage infrastructure and improve the water quality of the Potomac River in Washington D.C. The project is worth 819 million US dollars (758 million euros).

The aim of the project is to collect and store combined sewer overflows and stormwater from the city of Washington DC, before routing it to the Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant operated by DC Water in Blue Plains.

The main tunnel is 8.9 km long, 5.5 m wide and approximately 30 m deep.
