Morgan Stanley acquires stake in UltraEdge
(CercleFinance.com) - Morgan Stanley announced on Tuesday that it would be taking a majority stake in data center operator UltraEdge, currently an integral part of SFR, a 100% subsidiary of Altice France.
UltraEdge - which currently comprises a portfolio of 257 'datacenters' interconnected via SFR's national fiber optic network - is initially to be spun off.
As part of the deal, passive infrastructure and datacenter equipment will be transferred to UltraEdge, while servers and active equipment will be retained by SFR.
Morgan Stanley specifies that the investment will be made through Morgan Stanley Investment Management via investment funds managed by Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, a private infrastructure investment platform.
For the US financial group, UltraEdge should benefit from growing demand for next-generation, ultra-low latency connectivity services thanks to its portfolio of facilities and proximity to end-users.
Morgan Stanley plans to partner with Altice France to further modernize the infrastructure and increase the density of the data center portfolio, with the aim of establishing UltraEdge's position as a leading provider of edge services in France.
