Starbucks: to stop using straws by 2020

(CercleFinance.com) - Starbucks has announced its intention to remove single-use plastic straws from its 28,000 coffee stores, which are either directly owned or franchised around the world by 2020, which represents over a billion straws a year to eliminate.

The US coffee chain has designed a lid without a straw that will become standard for all its iced drinks, teas and espresso coffees. This is currently available in over 8,000 cafes in the US and Canada for some drinks.

Customers in Seattle - where Starbucks' headquarters is found - and Vancouver will be the first to see just lids without straws, starting from the autumn. The measure will then be extended across North America in fiscal year 2019 and then worldwide.
