Ford: expands global alliance with Volkswagen
(CercleFinance.com) - Auto giants Ford and Volkswagen today unveiled agreements expanding their global alliance, for which plans were first announced last year.
Under the new deal, the partnership will produce a medium pickup truck engineered and built by Ford, to be sold by Volkswagen under the Amarok line as from 2022.
The carmakers also plan to further strengthen their commercial-vehicles businesses, with the launch of a city delivery van that is based on VW's latest Caddy model next year, and later a 1-tonne cargo van to be created by Ford.
Lastly, from 2023 Ford plans to deliver 600,000 electric vehicles based on Volkswagen's MEB architecture in Europe.
The vehicle, which will be designed and engineered by Ford in Koln, will add another nameplate to the all-electric Mustang Mach-E, which is expected to be marketed next year.
