Boeing: Southwest orders 100 737 MAX - option for extra 155

(CercleFinance.com) - Boeing announced on Monday that Southwest Airlines has placed a firm order for 100 737 MAX aircraft and has placed an option on another 155.

At list prices, the contract is worth 12.5 billion dollars (10.6 billion euros), which could rise to nearly 32 billion dollars if all options are exercised.

Nevertheless, aircraft manufacturers are giving big discounts on large orders placed by airlines.

Boeing points out that the Southwest order comes as the Dallas-based carrier was looking to upgrade the largest component of its fleet, its 737-700 aircraft, which can carry between 140 and 150 passengers.
