Alphabet: could inaugurate era of drone deliveries
(CercleFinance.com) - According to trade press, Google could be the first company to offer a delivery service by drones, even before Amazon which, however, has been testing the principle for a number of years now.
Indeed, the federal civil aviation authorities have just issued to Wing Aviation, subsidiary of the Alphabet group, the status of airline. This certification will enable it to launch a commercial service, initially in the southwest of the State of Virginia. For this, Wing has conducted some 70,000 test flights, with 3,000 deliveries to consumers in Australia.
The drone developed by Wing uses a dozen propellers to take off, hover and land. It drops off its packages using a pulley in front of the customer's door. The first operations are planned for the end of the year.
