Telia: EU launches in-depth probe on Bonnier deal
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission has opened an in-depth review of Swedish telecom operator Telia's plans to buy Bonnier Broadcasting, saying that the deal could create a vertically integrated player in the audiovisual industry in Nordic countries.
As a retail TV distributor, Telia licenses channels from broadcasters, such as Bonnier Broadcasting, to include them in its retail audio-visual offering, the EU executive arm explained.
The investigation aims to ensure that Telia's acquisition of Bonnier will not lead to higher prices for, or less choice of, TV channels for viewers in Finland and Sweden, the Commission said.
