Ryanair: welcomes European Court ruling
(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday evening Ryanair welcomed the European Court's decision on discriminatory state aid favouring Italian airlines over other EU airlines.
The Italian government granted aid of E130m only to airlines holding an operating licence issued by Italy, the company said.
Ryanair is the largest Italian airline but has been excluded by the Italian government from these programs, it said.
Today's ruling confirms that the Commission must act as the guardian of a level playing field in air transport and cannot approve discriminatory state aid under political pressure from national governments, the Ryanair spokesperson said.
