Ryanair: does not exclude taking stake in Alitalia.

(CercleFinance.com) - At a press conference in Rome yesterday, Michael O'Leary, CEO of the Irish low cost airline Ryanair, expressed his opinion on Alitalia, the Italian airline that is having chronic financial difficulties.

Mr. O'Leary said that he is interested in taking a controlling stake in the company, or even all of the company's capital, providing the its restructuring was completed properly.

To date, Ryanair had made offers cross-service offers with Alitalia, without mentioning a capital alliance.

The Italian government has put its majority stake in Alitalia (51%) up for sale. Several candidates have already said that they are interested and the process is ongoing. Etihad, which has the remaining 49%, does not wish to invest any more in the company.
