Vodafone: EU clears Liberty Global deal, with conditions
(CercleFinance.com) - The European Commission on Thursday cleared Vodafone to proceed with its 18.
4 billion euros acquisition of Liberty Global's cable business in Czechia, Germany, Hungary and Romania, subject to a commitments package.
To address the Commission's concerns, Vodafone offered to provide a remedy taker - already identified as Telefonica - with access to the merged entity's cable network in Germany.
The British telecom giant will also refrain from restricting the possibility for broadcasters on the merged entity's TV platform to also distribute their content via an OTT service.
Vodafone also agreed not to increase the fees paid by free-to-air broadcasters for the transmission of their TV channels via Vodafone's cable network in Germany.
