AstraZeneca: raises guidance for second consecutive quarter

(CercleFinance.com) - AstraZeneca raised its full-year sales forecast for the second consecutive quarter on Thursday, showing confidence after posting "impressive results" in key markets such as China, the US and Japan in the past quarter.

The Anglo-Swedish drugmaker said it now expects product sales to increase by a "low to mid-teens percentage" in 2019. It previously expected a low double-digit percentage increase.

Third-quarter sales jumped by 18% to 6.1 billion dollars, generating core earnings - which exclude certain items - up 36% at 0.99 dollar per share.

Year-to-date product sales rose by 17% to 17.3 billion euros.

Every region reported encouraging performance, AstraZeneca said, with the company pointing out the performance of its new medicines, whose sales jumped 62% to 2.7 billion dollars alone in the past quarter.

The shares were up 3.5% in London after these numbers.
