BP: to cut methane emissions with drones, NASA sensors

(CercleFinance.com) - BP said that it plans to deploy continuous measurement of methane emissions in its future oil and gas projects as part of a program to cut emissions.

The British energy group said that this continuous measurement, including instruments such as gas cloud imaging, will be rolled out to all new major projects worldwide.

BP's North Sea business has already executed a pilot testing ways of remotely monitoring methane emissions from its offshore assets, based on drones and an advanced sensor technology originally designed by NASA.

The technology has also been tested and installed in existing facilities, such as the Khazzan giant natural gas field in Oman.
