Alstom: delivers signalling system to Egypt

(CercleFinance.com) - Alstom announces that it has supplied, tested and commissioned the Smartlock 400 computerised interlocking signalling system for Maghagha's railway station in Egypt.

This is the second section of the Beni Suef-Asyut line that has been commissioned, after the Abu Qurqas station was opened at the end of 2018.

The contract was signed in 2015 with Egyptian National Railways (ENR). It will equip the Beni Suef-Asyut line in Egypt with an interlocking system by mid-2020. The Beni Suef-Asyut regional line is 240 kilometres long. Alstom will replace the existing electro-mechanical interlocking solution.

"Smartlock 400 is the latest evolution in Alstom's Smartlock family and benefits from 30 years of worldwide return on experience. It is suited for all railway topologies with a centralised or distributed architecture and is applicable for both new and existing installations. The technology offers very high reliability and operational functionality, maximising safety and punctuality," said Raphael Bernardelli, CEO of Alstom North and Central Africa.
