Alstom: hydrogen train approved in Germany

(CercleFinance.com) - The Alstom group today announced that its Coradia iLint hydrogen train has been approved by the German Rail Authority (EBA) for entry into commercial service in Germany.

The Coradia iLint is the first passenger train powered by a hydrogen fuel cell, which produces electrical energy for traction. This zero-emission train has the double advantage of only making limited noise, and emitting just steam and condensed water.

“This approval is a major milestone for the Coradia iLint and a decisive step towards clean and future-oriented mobility. Alstom is immensely proud of this hydrogen-powered regional train, a breakthrough in emission-free mobility, and the fact that it will now go into regular passenger operation,” said Wolfram Schwab, Alstom Vice President of R&D and Innovation.
