Thales: sonar project with MHI for mine countermeasures
(CercleFinance.com) - Thales has announced that it will jointly develop a dual-frequency sonar demonstrator with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), which will be evaluated at sea in France and Japan, following the signing of a cooperation agreement between the French DGA defense procurement agency and its Japanese counterpart.
This five-year project, which will consolidate the existing partnership between both groups, aims to develop a new autonomous mine countermeasure system capable of detecting, classifying and locating all types of mines.
Thales will provide its expertise in sonar processing, with SAMDIS, the latest generation of high-frequency synthetic aperture sonar, while MHI will provide its low-frequency synthetic aperture sonar and the OZZ-5 drone.
