Novo Nordisk: launches cheaper insulin in the US

(CercleFinance.com) - Denmark's Novo Nordisk is launching a cheaper insulin program in the US, where the price of anti-diabetes treatments has surged in recent years.

In a statement on Thursday, the drugmaker said it has made available additional options, recognizing the different situations that make insulin unaffordable or inaccessible.

"We know some people still struggle to afford their insulin and we want to help. We've talked to people, including those who have been critical of us, and it's clear there is no one solution that will work for everyone and people need options," the group said.

For 99 dollars, patients can now get up to three vials or two packs of pens of any combination of Novo Nordisk insulins, it said. The program is available to eligible patients, with or without insurance.

This decision follows similar steps taken by other groups such as Eli Lilly and Sanofi.
