Fraport: passenger traffic down 4% in February

(CercleFinance.com) - Fraport annunced on Thursday that passenger traffic at Frankfurt airport fell by 4% in February, hit by both the coronavirus epidemic and the winter storms that hit Europe last month.

In a statement, the airport operator said it carried nearly 4.4 million passengers in the past month, compared to 4.5 million at the same time last year.

In the last week of February (24 February to 1 March), the number of passengers who travelled fell by 14.5%, Fraport said, adding that the downward trend accelerated in the first week of March.

Added to this are the numerous cancellations due to storm Ciara, which battered Europe at the beginning of February.

Over the first two months of the year, passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport is now down by 2.3%.

February traffic began to show the first effects of Covid-19 and this fall will obviously accelerate sharply in the coming weeks, Oddo BHF analysts warned this morning.

The market seems to agree, with the share indeed weathering a storm this morning, down about 6.5% at midday.
