Thales: agreement with Telespazio on lunar satellites
(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), has signed a contract with Telespazio - another joint venture between Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%) - for the design and development of the LCNS (Lunar Communications and Navigation Services) navigation system and satellite navigation infrastructure for ESA's Moonlight program.
In concrete terms, this program aims to create a constellation of satellites in cislunar orbit to provide advanced communications and navigation services.
It will enable precise lunar landings and autonomous mobility on the Moon, while facilitating high-speed communications between Earth and the Moon.
According to Thales, this project is of prime importance for the return and lasting presence of man on the Moon, and will optimize operational efficiency and operating and utilization costs.
