Eni: Cypriot gas production at Cronos
(CercleFinance.com) - Eni has signed an agreement with Egypt and Cyprus for the development and export of Cypriot gas from Cronos Block 6 offshore Cyprus.
This agreement is a concrete step in the establishment of a gas hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, capitalizing on Egypt's existing hydrocarbon infrastructure and positioning Cyprus as a gas producer and exporter, it says.
The gas will be transported and processed at the existing Zohr facilities, then liquefied at the Damietta LNG plant for export to European markets.
Claudio Descalzi, Eni CEO, said that this agreement paves the way for Cypriot gas to reach the market in a timely manner, thus contributing to energy security and the competitiveness of energy supply. Egypt and Cyprus reaffirm their role in the emerging energy hub of the Eastern Mediterranean, which is set to play a growing role in global gas supply in the near future.
