Merck: CHMP gives positive opinion on pneumococcal vaccine
(CercleFinance.com) - Merck announced on Friday that it had received a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency's Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) concerning the marketing authorization application for its pneumococcal vaccine.
This pneumococcal vaccine is notably aimed at the elderly and immunocompromised adults, in whom pneumococcal infections are likely to cause serious illness.
The vaccine, called 'Capvaxige', has already been approved in the United States, Canada and Australia.
Merck states that marketing authorization from the European Commission is expected during Q2.
