
Thales: E862m contract with European Space Agency
(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), announces that it has signed a contract worth 862 million euros with the European Space Agency (ESA).
The contract covers the design, development and supply of the LDE (Lunar Descent Element) descent module for ESA's Argonaut mission, as well as the design and integration of the mission.
Scheduled for launch in 2030, Argonaut will carry structural elements and scientific instruments to the Moon.
The first mission will carry dedicated navigation and telecommunications payloads, as well as an energy production and storage system to enable European companies to explore the planet's South Pole.
