Veolia: selected for the Pacifico Mexinol project

(CercleFinance.com) - Veolia has been chosen to design the water treatment system for the Pacifico Mexinol facility, a methanol production unit due to come on stream in Mexico by 2028, project managers announced on Monday.

Under the terms of a memorandum of understanding signed with the American company Transition Industries, the future operator of the site, the French environmental services group has been asked to supply its filtration membrane, reverse osmosis and electrodeionization technologies.

Its task will be to establish a closed circuit to treat and recycle municipal wastewater, with the aim of avoiding the discharge of more than 8.5 million m3 into Ohuira Bay every year.

When launched, Pacifico Mexinol is set to become the world's largest ultra-low-carbon chemical plant - producing around 350.000 million tonnes of green methanol and 1.8 million tonnes of blue methanol per year via carbon capture.

Construction of the plant is scheduled to begin this year.
