Mercedes-Benz: global sales down 4% in 2024
(CercleFinance.com) - Mercedes-Benz announced on Friday that its global sales fell by 4% in 2024, although the upturn in its business in the last quarter of the year seemed to offer investors a little hope.
The German carmaker delivered 2,389,000 cars and commercial vehicles last year, in a market context deemed 'difficult'.
A sign of the sector's feverishness, its sales of electric vehicles fell by 22% to 204,600 units.
However, the Stuttgart-based group recorded a more favorable fourth quarter, with total sales up 4% to 625,800 units in the October-December period.
Last-quarter sales were boosted by a 34% increase in sales of top-of-the-range models, driven by the Mercedes-AMG, S-Class and G-Class ranges, particularly in the US.
Following this announcement, Mercedes-Benz shares rose by more than 3% on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Friday, posting the biggest gain on the DAX index. The share is still down 12% over the past 12 months.
