Bouygues: selected for Melbourne metro project
(CercleFinance.com) - Bouygues Construction announced on Tuesday that it had been selected to build the tunnels for a major subway project in Melbourne, Australia.
The French construction group says that the total cost of the work will be 1.7bn AUD, including 562m AUD (E343m) for its subsidiary Bouygues Construction Australia alone.
The contract covers the design and construction of two 10-km tunnels, two metro stations, two tunnel access shafts, an intervention and ventilation shaft and 39 cross passages.
While the first phase of the project - dubbed 'Suburban Rail Loop East' - is already under construction, tunnelling will not begin until 2026, with a view to the first trains entering service by 2035.
