ABB: signs contract for wind power project in Scotland
(CercleFinance.com) - Aker Solutions has signed a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract with ABB for the 560 MW Green Volt floating offshore wind project in the UK, led by Vårgrønn and Flotation Energy.
Green Volt, located 80 km off Peterhead in north-east Scotland, aims to become Europe's first commercial-scale floating wind farm, and will contribute to the decarbonization of the UK energy system.
When fully operational in 2029, the project is expected to deliver 1.5 TWh of renewable energy to the grid per year, supplying around 555,000 homes per year. The project will contribute to the UK government's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and Scotland's aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045.
Wind power currently accounts for almost 30% of the UK's total electricity generation, with a record daily output of 21.8 GW6 last year, and projects like Green Volt are important to maintain this momentum, ABB Energy Industries said.
