Vicat: US subsidiary finalizes agreement with DOE
(CercleFinance.com) - The Vicat Group announces that its US subsidiary, National Cement Company of California Inc.
has finalized a cooperation agreement with the US Department of Energy (DOE) for the Lebec Net Zero (LNZ) project at a California cement plant.
The agreement provides for public funding covering up to 50% of phase 1 costs, i.e. a maximum of $500m.
The project aims to reduce the cement plant's CO₂ emissions by around 950,000 tonnes per year through a carbon capture, transport and storage system, the use of alternative fuels derived from agricultural waste, and the production of activated clay-based cement. The aim is to produce a carbon-neutral cement.
The first phase includes a preliminary engineering study and the setting up of a committee to dialogue with local communities, scheduled to run until 2026.
