SES: signs five-year space contract with Pentagon
(CercleFinance.com) - SES announced Monday that it has been awarded a contract worth up to $117m by the US Department of Defense to support the operations of the US European Forces Command (USEUCOM).
The agreement - signed for a period of five years by its subsidiary SES Space & Defense - calls for the provision of satellite capacity from several orbits and bands.
In a press release, SES explains that it plans to collaborate with several players working in the UHF, L, C, X, Ku and Mil-Ka bands, and to deploy teleports, backhaul services and monitoring and maintenance tools as part of the project.
In particular, the idea is to be able to set up two-way satellite earth stations (VSAT) for the United States European Command.
The latter's coverage area encompasses Europe, parts of Asia and the Middle East, the Arctic and the Atlantic Ocean.
The organization - which comprises some 70,000 military and civilian personnel - is responsible for US defense operations and relations with NATO and 51 other countries.
