By working more closely together, the partners expect to create significant value for AAdvantage and Citi co-branded cardholders.
American is proud to have launched the first airline loyalty program and, with Citi, the first co-branded credit card in the travel industry, it said.
The strength of our relationship with Citi has enabled us to offer first-class products and customer service to millions of AAdvantage cardholders. This expanded partnership will open up even more value and exciting new benefits for all our customers in the future, it added.
Citi has entered into an agreement to acquire the Barclays American Airlines co-branded card portfolio and will begin transferring cardholders to the Citi portfolio in 2026.
