Campari: William Grant alumnus chosen as CEO
(CercleFinance.com) - On Wednesday Campari Group announced that it had chosen Simon Hunt, the former head of William Grant&Sons, as its next CEO, a role the executive will assume from 15 January.
The Italian spirits group said it had selected the executive, who boasts more than 30 years' experience, particularly in the strategic US market, following an "in-depth" analysis by the board's nomination committee, which evaluated both internal and external candidates.
He will succeed Paolo Marchesini, the company's finance and operations director, and Fabio Di Fede, the company's legal and M&A director, who have until now held the position on an interim basis.
An Australian national, Simon Hunt spent 14 years with whisky house William Grant&Sons, where he was managing director between 2016 and 2020.
He previously held managerial positions at Diageo, where he looked after the Smirnoff vodka brand, and then at Pernod Ricard, as managing director of the Malibu-Kahlua group.
Since 2022, he has headed a business incubator called Catalyst Spirits, which owns, among others, the Howler Head whisky brand, in which Campari has taken a minority stake.
The company states that his appointment will be put to the vote of its shareholders at a general meeting scheduled for January 15, when he will take up his new post.
Following this appointment, Campari shares were up over 5% on Wednesday morning on the Milan Stock Exchange.
