Amazon: new records broken for Black Friday

(CercleFinance.com) - Amazon announced on Tuesday that it had broken new records during the week of 'Black Friday', both in terms of value sales and the number of items sold.

The Internet giant - which is not disclosing precise figures - simply said that it had enabled its global customers to save billions of dollars during the 12 days of promotions that ended yesterday with 'Cyber Monday'.

The Seattle-based group notably emphasized that it had sold several million of its Echo and Fire TV devices, which were among the 'best sellers' of the season.

In the US, the most popular categories were electronics, toys and beauty products, continues Amazon, while the best-selling brands were Beats headphones, Samsung TVs, Barbie dolls, Play-doh toys and Shark vacuum cleaners.

Amazon adds that more than 60% of sales made on its platform during the week of 'Black Friday' this year were made by independent sellers.

According to data compiled by Adobe Analytics, online sales in the US during the Thanksgiving/Black Friday period grew by 9%-10% this year, compared with 6%-8% growth last year.
