Casino: French competition authority approves 200 divestments

(CercleFinance.com) - On Thursday the French competition authority (Autorité de la concurrence) announced that it had conditionally approved the acquisition of 200 Casino stores by the Intermarché group.

After examining the dossier, the authority said that it has finally authorised Intermarché to take control of these outlets, subject to 11 stores being sold to competing banners.

In its view, this aims to ensure that consumers can benefit from sufficient alternatives to enable them to compete in their day-to-day shopping.

The authority specifies that the case concerned stores other than the 61 outlets under the Casino group banner, whose takeover by Intermarché had already been authorised last January.

For the record, the authority had made this previous transaction conditional on the sale of three stores which have since been rebranded under the Carrefour banner: Lons-le-Saunier (39), Plouaret (22) and Vals-près-le-Puy (43).
