Lockheed Martin: testing aircraft/drone complementarity

(CercleFinance.com) - Lockheed Martin Skunk Works announces that it has conducted tests of collaboration between manned and unmanned aircraft, in partnership with the University of Iowa and Lockheed Martin's Prototypes team.

During these tests, a human 'battle manager' aboard an L-39 Albatros commanded AI-controlled L-29 Delfin jets in real time via a touchscreen interface, simulating an air counteroffensive mission.

The AI aircraft worked together to neutralize fictitious enemy aircraft using simulated systems.

This work lays the foundations for future air combat, where manned and unmanned systems will execute complex missions together, Skunk Works says.

These tests, integrating real-time human supervision for the first time, aim to optimise operational flexibility and pilot safety in the face of emerging threats.
