Thales: successful launch of Koreasat 6A satellite
(CercleFinance.com) - Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), has announced the successful launch of the Koreasat 6A telecommunications satellite aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
Ordered in 2022 by South Korean operator KT SAT, Koreasat 6A was designed and developed under the prime contractorship of Thales Alenia Space, which will provide operational support during its initial 15-year lifespan.
Based on Thales Alenia Space's Spacebus 4000B2 platform, Koreasat 6A will replace the current Koreasat 6 satellite, providing fixed and broadcast satellite services to South Korea from its geostationary orbit at 116° East.
It will also play a key role in improving the accuracy and reliability of location provided by the KASS satellite navigation system, by carrying an additional SBAS (Satellite-Based Augmentation System) payload.
