Nokia: fiber optic contract in South Africa
(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia has announced an agreement with Fibertime, which will deploy its fiber optic solution to rapidly extend broadband access to underserved areas of South Africa and provide affordable access to millions of low-income customers.
Currently, under 85% of South Africans have access to broadband, leaving many dependent on expensive mobile packages that are up to 70 times more expensive per gigabit than fiber, the Finnish network equipment supplier says.
Thanks to Nokia's fiber solution, Fibertime will open up a new wave of affordable, reliable and pay-per-use broadband, giving local communities greater access to education, employment and business opportunities, it continues.
