Engie: wins BESS project in Belgium
(CercleFinance.com) - Engie has announced that it has won a 100 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project with installed capacity from electricity grid operator Elia, at the fourth Capacity Remuneration Scheme (CRM) auction in Belgium.
This project for a new 100 MW battery park (Li-ion) in Kallo (East Flanders), for which the permit application was submitted in March 2023, will be backed by a 15-year capacity contract starting in November 2028.
Once operational, the batteries will supply energy for four hours, i.e. 400 MWh or the equivalent of 80,000 5 kWh domestic batteries, and will cover the equivalent of the electricity consumption of more than 48,000 households.
With the development of this new park, Engie now has a portfolio of 17 projects in operation, under construction and in advanced development in Europe for a total of 500 MW of installed capacity.
