Rio Tinto: completes acquisition of NZAS
(CercleFinance.com) - Rio Tinto announces the completion of the acquisition of Sumitomo Chemical Company's 20.
64% stake in New Zealand Aluminium Smelters (NZAS), owner of the Tiwai Point smelter in New Zealand, making Rio Tinto the sole owner of NZAS.
Armando Torres, Managing Director of Rio Tinto Aluminium Pacific Operations, points out that this acquisition, combined with the recent power agreements for Tiwai Point, confirms the company's long-term commitment to New Zealand.
Rio Tinto has also acquired SCC's 2.46% interest in Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL), bringing its share in BSL to 73.5%.
