ABB: agreement with Blykalla to build SMR in Sweden
(CercleFinance.com) - ABB and Swedish nuclear power company Blykalla announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding to develop advanced nuclear reactor technology to support Sweden's efforts to produce clean, reliable baseload power.
The partnership will initially focus on the construction of a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) pilot plant near Oskarshamn, south of Stockholm, to validate the concept before extending it to other sites.
ABB will provide automation, electrification and cybersecurity solutions to support Blykalla's SEALER-E SMR prototype.
We are delighted to welcome ABB as a partner and to benefit from its expertise for this project, Blykalla said.
Sweden is aiming for a fully decarbonised electricity system by 2045, with an expansion of nuclear capacity.
