Saft: presents new lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery
(CercleFinance.com) - Saft, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies, presents its new lithium-ion (Li-ion) aviation battery at NBAA Business Aviation 2024 in Las Vegas, US.
The 28-volt (V) lithium-ion battery represents a major breakthrough for the aviation industry in terms of weight reduction, energy density, total cost of ownership (TCO) and CO2 emissions, it says.
The new lithium-ion battery stores more than twice as much energy in the same weight and one and a half times as much energy in the same volume as a lead-acid battery.
By switching to lithium-ion batteries, the total weight of a single aircraft could be reduced by 20kg to 30kg, with a positive impact on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Our new lithium-ion battery for aviation draws on all this expertise to transform it into an innovative solution, long-awaited by the industry, which offers a safe, economical, high-performance and lightweight alternative to lead-acid technology, Saft said.
