Technip Energies: selected by ExxonMobil in Mozambique
(CercleFinance.com) - Technip Energies announced on Wednesday that it has been awarded an engineering contract by US giant ExxonMobil for an LNG project in Mozambique, without disclosing the financial terms of the agreement.
The Rovuma LNG project, located on the Afungi Peninsula in the northeast of the country, is to consist of the construction of an LNG plant with a total production capacity of 18 million metric tons per annum (Mtpa).
It is to comprise 12 fully modular LNG trains of 1.5 Mtpa each.
Technip explains that the plant will use electrically powered LNG trains, instead of conventional gas turbines, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The front-end engineering design (FEED) contract - won in cooperation with Japan's JGC Corporation - calls in particular for the assembly of prefabricated, standardised modules.
This contract comes at a time when Mozambique has stated its ambition to become one of Africa's leading LNG exporters.
