ABB: modernisation contracts with SSAB in Sweden
(CercleFinance.com) - ABB announces that it has been awarded three contracts related to SSAB, the world's leading producer of high-strength steel, to deploy automation, electrification, main motor and drive technologies at Borlänge, Sweden.
ABB is part of a global reinvestment project at SSAB Borlänge's existing hot-rolling mill, supporting the steelmaker's ambitious green transition goals.
The reinvestment project will occur from 2024 to 2027.
SSAB aims to be the first steel company to offer fossil-free steel to the market by 2026, and to largely eliminate carbon dioxide emissions from its operations in the long term.
SSAB's sustainability ambition relies heavily on stable production at the Borlänge plant, often referred to as the 'heart' of its operations.
The decision to modernize Borlänge will ensure stable production, improve efficiency and fund SSAB's goal of transitioning to fossil-free steel production.
