Eni: production starts at a gas field in Sicily

(CercleFinance.com) - On Monday, Eni announced the start of production from the Argo Cassiopea gas field in southern Sicily, the country's largest gas project.

The field, which Eni operates alongside its partner Energean, has reserves estimated at around ten billion cubic metres, the Italian energy company said.

Annual production is expected to be around 1.5 billion cubic metres.

The gas, which comes from one of the four subsea wells drilled by the group in the Strait of Sicily, is to be transported via a 60 km subsea pipeline to the Gela unit, where it will be processed and injected into the national energy grid.

Eni points out that the start-up of the project comes just three years after construction work began.
