Toyota: scrutinised in Japan for irregular certifications
(CercleFinance.com) - Toyota has announced that it is under investigation by Japan's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) following irregularities in model certification applications announced on 3 June.
Toyota has received a corrective order to reform its certification operations. The company attributes its difficulties to unclear internal operating rules, insufficient resource management, a lack of awareness of the importance of certification, and a lack of management involvement.
Toyota plans to review its certification structure and system, clarify responsibilities and continue to improve data management. MLIT has identified eight new cases of non-compliance, affecting seven vehicles. However, customers can continue to use their vehicles.
Production of the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio and Yaris Cross models, suspended since June 3, will resume in early September following confirmation of compliance.
Shipments of Noah/Voxy models will resume as soon as possible after validation by MLIT, the car maker says.
