Eni: presents development projects in Congo

(CercleFinance.com) - The President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, met the CEO of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, in Brazzaville.

During the meeting, Claudio Descalzi briefed the President on the progress of the Congo LNG project, which began exporting liquefied gas from the country in February this year, contributing to the global energy market and placing Congo among the world's leading exporters of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

With the second phase of the project, due to start at the end of 2025, Congo's gas exports will increase to 4.5 billion cubic metres per year.

The President of the Republic of Congo and the CEO also discussed the projects for the production of agricultural raw materials for biorefinery underway in the country following the start-up of the first Agri-Hub, and other initiatives in the field of energy transition.

Distribution to households has already begun in Pointe Noire and Brazzaville and will be extended to other provinces throughout 2024.

They also discussed the latest sustainable development initiatives, including phase 3 of the integrated Hinda project, which in particular guarantees access to water, medical care and education for around 25,000 beneficiaries.

Eni has been present in the Congo for over 50 years. Today, it is the only company involved in developing the Republic of Congo's enormous gas resources, supplying gas to Électricité Centrale du Congo (ECC), which guarantees 70% of the country's electricity production.
