Rio Tinto: builds two solar farms in Australia

25MW solar farms on the Gove Peninsula in northern Australia as the mining group seeks to secure a more sustainable electricity supply.
Following an agreement with the Traditional Owners, the solar farms will help support a low-carbon future for the Gove community after mining operations cease towards the end of the decade.
Aggreko will build, own and operate the Rio Tinto solar farms for up to 10 years, with construction commencing in July 2024 and completion scheduled for early 2025. The two sites will have a combined capacity of 10.5MW.
The Gove solar project is part of our joint vision with the Traditional Owners to leave a positive legacy for the communities of the Gove Peninsula following the cessation of bauxite mining, it said.
