Getlink: celebrates success of ElecLink interconnector
(CercleFinance.com) - Getlink today celebrated the first anniversary of ElecLink, the world's only electrical interconnector operating in a tunnel environment, which now connects the British and French electricity grids without interacting with marine ecosystems.
Having a capacity of 1GW, equivalent to the electricity consumption of the Lyon area, ElecLink has increased the electricity exchange capacity between France and the UK by 33%, the company says.
This capacity was immediately used by market players, confirming their interest in a third cross-Channel interconnector in a tunnel environment.
ElecLink is also an operational success with an availability rate of over 94%, and more than 6 Twh transported since 25 May 2022, Getlink adds.
