UnitedHealth: Optum-Change merger agreement extended
(CercleFinance.com) - UnitedHealth group has announced that Optum, its healthcare services division, has agreed with Change Healthcare to extend their merger agreement to 31 December 2022, due to hostility from the US Department of Justice (DoJ).
The DoJ's attempt to block the combination is without merit and only serves to delay improving the experience and outcomes for all health system participants, Optum said, which plans to defend the benefits of the deal next August.
Optum will pay 650 million dollars in fees to Change Healthcare in the event the merger cannot be completed. Change Healthcare will pay a special cash dividend of 2 dollars per share to its shareholders around about completion time.
