(CercleFinance.com) - US courier giant UPS announced on Thursday that it has appointed Carol Tomé as its chief executive officer, a role she will take on in June.

She replaces David Abney, who has been CEO since 2014 and chairman of the board of directors since 2016. Abney is expected to take full charge of all the group's bodies at the end of September.

Carol Tomé previously served as CFO of the Home Depot chain of DIY stores. She has served on the UPS Board of Directors since 2003.

She will now lead a group that has over 495,000 employees.
