Nike: under investigation by the European Commission.

(CercleFinance.com) - Nike suffers a serious blow as it becomes the subject of an antitrust investigation by the European Commission for the same reasons as Sanrio (parent company of Hello Kitty) and Universal Studios.


Brussels' investigations aim to determine whether certain practices by these three companies, which are being investigated individually, unlawfully restrict cross-border and online sales within the EU single market.

The investigations concern the licensing and distribution of associated products such as clothing, shoes and telephone accessories, to which an image or text is applied at the time of manufacture. According to the texts in force the manufacturer may not use such images or text if it has not signed a licensing agreement with the holder of the intellectual property rights concerned.
