Morgan Stanley: buys Canadian equity plan firm Solium

(CercleFinance.com) - Morgan Stanley has bought Solium, a Canadian firm that specialises in equity plan management, for 900 million dollars, the US banking giant said on Monday.


Thanks to this acquisition, Morgan Stanley will bringing together Solium's stock plan administration platform - which includes 3,000 stock plan clients, such as Levi Strauss and Shopify - with its own wealth management business.

For the record, Morgan Stanley entered into a partnership with Solium in 2016 to administer equity compensation plans for Morgan Stanley's corporate clients and their employees.

Morgan Stanley currently has 320 stock plan clients, representing 1.5 million participants.

Marcos Lopez, CEO of Solium, will remain with the company and be based in Calgary, the New York-based bank said.
